11:00 pm Got a new tenor mouthpiece over the weekend. I'm totally stoked about it. I got the Francois Louis Spectruoso SP Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece. It's brilliant. I'm going to have to tweek what reeds I use and such over time, but overall it kills. Current Mood: nerdy
In other news, I'm going to get a new mouthpiece for tenor with my tax refund. Don't know exactly what one yet, but here's a short list...
Francois Louis, Selmer Soloist, Vandoren V-16, Jody Jazz, Lost Wax "Doc" Tenney Otto Link. Also, depending on which one I get, I may also get a new case for the tenor (and possibly soprano).
I'm also considering a new tenor. I've been having issue as of late with how it plays. There's nothing really wrong with it, but since I've bought it back in 2003 or so, my playing has changed alot. Therefore, my tone, how I breath and even what I'm looking for tone color wise and response wise, is not exactly what I want anymore.
Which is why I'm going to try some necks over the next few weeks or so. It'd be cheaper and easier to buy a neck rather than get a new sax altogether. Plus, I can't exactly sell mine at the moment anyway. I'm still doing big band rehearsals and the concert isn't for another month and a half and I can't potentially be w/o a tenor for longer than a week or so. I'm happy though b/c the store I typically go through for instruments will have some in stock in a few weeks. Yamaha's that is.
That's mainly what I'm looking at right now. The 82Z and the 875EX custom. I have't played one in a few years now so I don't really remember how they played. I remember being impressed by the 875EX, in fact I almost got it over my Reference 54.
Anywho, if any of y'all happen to have played any of the mouthpieces or saxes recently, tell me what you thought. That is all for now. Laterz Current Mood: curious
12:02 am I have to go back to work tomorrow. Not looking forward to it. I guess in a way I'm ready to go back. I've actually been slightly bored the last day or so. In fact I have to be there in like 6 hours, but I'm not in the least bit tired.
In other news, I must be a gluton for punishment b/c I'm going to start working on a big band arrangement. Why you ask. Well, b/c I'm looking to do one. I'm in no way a big band arranger, by any means. Though brain storming some ideas and whatnot does interest me. Though the arrangements I have worked on before in the past (along with some compositions I've done) tend to be rather, umm, difficult to play. Yes, I write really hard music. It's not intentionally that way, it just happens. It's what I hear in my head.
So what song am I arranging you may ask. "In The Crease" by Branford Marsalis. Yeah, that's not a difficult song to play. Not at all. Playing mixed meter songs are not difficult to play at all. Not in the least.
In case you couldn't tell, my typing was very, VERY sarcastic. The most sarcastic typing ever in the history of existence.
Anywho, getting my taxes done tomorrow so I'm stoked about that. Well, my level of stokedness with directly relate with how much my refund will be.
Oh, and random thought, why does Fiona Apple remind me of my ex?
Well, on that note, I'm off to not sleep. Current Mood: awake Current Music: Fiona Apple "Parting Gift"
12:29 pm - Extra day off, huzzah! So I've taken a few days off just b/c. So I just realized that I have an extra day off which is awesome. So I'm gonna get to chill for an extra day, which I needed. Just sayin'. Current Mood: chipper
04:02 pm Still no working computer. I am still alive, I just have to go to the library now to check emails. Weird guy sitting next to me keeps looking over his shoulder and at me. Anywho, I feel like I've fallen off the face of the Earth not being online and such. I tried catching up on everyone's journal, but that's not gonna happen. Too many. If there's anything of significance you want me to know about, give me a heads up. Otherwise, I'll just jump back in when my computer's back online. Until then, happy holidays everyone!!!!
